-INSTRUCTORS-
Sue Zinter Sue has been in the medical and health/fitness industry all of her working life. From medical research and sales to holistic therapy and bodywork. Sue has always been fascinated by the human body's innate desire to be healthy and at peace. Continuing education in the areas of yoga and massage therapy keeps Sue attuned to the latest research so she can transfer the information she receives to each and every one of her client/group sessions. In Bodywork, Sue is a specialist in medical massage, myofascial release and trigger point therapy. As a yoga student over the last 17 years, Sue has found her love of teaching, coupled with her ongoing training in the field of chair yoga, restorative and vinyasa yoga has been a benefit to all of her students. She has had extensive yoga training with Baron Baptiste, Bryan Kest and Sean Corne. Sue has found each amalgamation of yoga training has culminated into the quote " All rivers lead to the ocean" . Meaning, whether through body work or yoga therapy, all training and education are meaningless until they can be applied to the benefit of not only the practitioner, but, eventually,to everyone and anything one connects with in life. Clients all benefit from Sue's vast experience and practical knowledge in the world of healing. If you want to find her, she is a yoga instructor and sees massage clients at her studio, Soma Cura Wellness Center (won the 2016 Artvoice reader's poll in both the yoga and massage categories) which she co-owns with her husband Matthew Green. Coming in January, visit her latest addition to the Soma Cura family: Alz Rootz Cafe. A funky organic outdoorsy themed juice bar in memory of her Mom and Dad who passed away recently but left a legacy of their camping and hiking this wonderful earth.
KELLY TRIPP Kelly’s intention in the yoga room is to guide people towards experiencing connection to their true self. The practice of yoga helped Kelly transform her mind and body during a challenging time in her life. She believes connecting the mind, body and soul through a physical practice is transformational and her teachings focus on guiding practitioners towards this experience. In 2011 Kelly began her first teacher training with Evolation and received her 200 hour Vinyasa Flow Yoga certification. In 2015 she completed another 200 hour Teacher Training Program with East Meets West Yoga in Buffalo, NY. In 2011 Kelly designed and implemented a program to bring yoga to the workplace which continues to grow and thrive. In addition to teaching corporate yoga, and multiple studio classes at Evolation’s Buffalo location, she offers Yoga for Athletes sessions to local Colleges and High Schools. The focus in these sessions is tailored to the needs of the athletes and includes injury prevention education. In 2015 Kelly joined the Evolation Teacher Training Staff and continues to work as a local teacher trainer. Most recently Kelly was named as a Lululemon Ambassador, joining an amazing team of local Fitness Professionals. Kelly’s Vinyasa classes encourage mindful movement, are well-rounded and set to music, and often evolve organically giving thought to intelligent sequencing. She teaches the kind of class that she enjoys to take as she vibes off the energy of the students who show up in her classes. She says, “I hope all of my students feel that I am in it with them, supporting them, holding space for them every step of the way. When we take care of ourselves, we take care of each other and that is why the practice of yoga is so transformational and far reaching.” Kelly adds, “I have had so many wonderful teachers throughout my life and I believe my teaching style is greatly enhanced by those experiences, as well as my studies, personal practice, and my pure love of what I get to do each day as my job.” “There is no passion to be found playing small – settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” – Nelson Mandela

CANDICE CINQUINO My practice began 5years ago with a Hatha class at University at Buffalo for 1 credit. After about 3 weeks of class I knew that this was something I was going to do for the rest of my life. I approached my teacher, Jackie, the following week to ask her how she got into the practice and how she trained to become a teacher. This led to a recommendation for the Himalayan Institute’s 200hr training which I applied to, was accepted, and began the following fall 4 years ago now. What was most interesting and fateful was that simultaneously with my enrollment at HI Buffalo, I found Power Yoga Buffalo and began my Baptiste Yoga practice. This practice was much different than the Hatha journey I was about to begin but there was something that kept me coming back day after day, week after week. It was the sense of community in that little Lincoln Rd. studio. It was the inspiration that poured from the instructors and the students as I could feel them in the practice together from Downdog to Savasana. Most vividly I remember the feeling of being at ease, at home, in my body and in that space on Lincoln Road. I was seeking some a form of physical activity that would speak to my dance and gymnastics background and what I found was far beyond what I even imagined.
Baptiste Level 1, Level 2 and Art of Assisting are the tools that I am extremely grateful for but what keeps me teaching and practicing is a deep desire to know myself better, inside and out and to create a space for others to do the same. My passion for alignment is balanced by my love for free movement and rhythm. As a teacher, there is nothing that brings me more joy than watching someone discover muscles, movement, and flow for the first time, on or off the mat. Whether we’ve practice for 20years or 20minutes, the opportunity to look with fresh eyes is always there. What brings me joy as a student of the practice? The same exact thing! Feeling something new, in my heart or in my body, letting the movement become fluid and intuitive, and knowing that nothing has to be, nor will it ever be perfect so my only job is to just keep letting go.
I am grateful for the time and space to practice and teach and even more for the students and teachers that inspire me everyday to keep looking inward and keep moving forward on and off the mat!
CARRIE JACOBSON My yoga practice began as an outlet for physical activity. I was a swimmer for much of my young life and in college, swim practice was my meditation. After graduating, I found that I missed those hours I spent immersed in water, connecting movement and breath, completely engaged in my own in my body. I started yoga in order to move in a new way, but realized it filled the hole that had previously been occupied by swimming. The process of turning inward, focusing on the alignment of my body and moving with the breath, allows me the opportunity to rest my mind. It is from that perspective that I structure my classes. My classes, like my own practice, begins slowly, with the intention of opening areas that need attention. I create a sequence that combines challenging poses with easier counter poses, using the breath to transition between them with grace and ease. I enjoy the opportunity to settle in to a pose to see what may arise and allow for the body to adjust. I like to give students time toward the end of class to explore their own practice and I frequently end class with a yin pose - holding a seated or reclined shape for an extended period of time. I began teaching in 2008 and completed my 200-hr teacher training certification with The Himalayan Institute in Buffalo, NY.
